Kettering’s Wicksteed Park is hoping to engage people in its heritage by appointing a new community links manager.
Charlotte Widgery will work towards delivering a programme of new activities at the home of children’s play, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
She will also launch the Friends of Wicksteed Park group, encouraging volunteers to play an active role in the park and boost levels of community involvement by digging out old photos, postcards, documents and items relating to the site through the years to form part of an archive project.
Charlotte said that she will hope to involve individuals, groups, teachers, schools and visitors.
She added: “The park is of huge importance to the heritage of the region, and has served the local community for over 90 years.
“Community organisations and schools already use the park and the trust runs a popular education programme.
“My role is to build on all that work and to deliver an action-packed activity plan that has something for everyone.
“I’m also asking local people and lovers of the park to dig out old photos, postcards, documents and items relating to the site through the years to form part of an archive project.”
