A Kettering roofing company has supplied a new roof to Kettering General Hospital’s community and staff recreation hall refurbishment appeal, saving it thousands of pounds.

JDB Industrial Roofing, based in Brooklands Court on Kettering Venture Park, fitted the new roof at a “considerably reduced rate” as a thank-you to hospital staff.

The Revive the Rec Hall Appeal has been organised by volunteers in a bid to raise £145,000 to renovate the 50-year-old hall, which is regularly used both by hospital staff and other local groups.

Staff governor and appeal organiser Fiona Barber said: “We can’t thank JDB Roofing enough for supporting our appeal and doing their bit for the local community.

“They have saved us many thousands of pounds and helped us to make sure this aging building has a proper roof.

“It is very important work for us and means the appeal is really gathering momentum.”

Victoria Lee from JDB Industrial Roofing said: “We were very keen to support the Revive the Rec Hall Appeal because it was an opportunity for us to do something as a thank you to the hospital’s staff who work so hard for the health and well being of our local community.

“It also enables us to give something back to the community by supporting a new venue that will be available for local people to use.

“We would also like to thank Protan, Kingspan and SIG for supplying us with reduced price materials which enabled us to support the project while keeping costs to an absolute minimum.”

Other local groups have also pledged their support to the appeal, including the League of Friends of Kettering and District Hospitals, which have helped to refurbish the entrance, toilets, kitchens and disability access to the hall, and Kettering Huxloe Rotary, which has provided a water heater.

Shirely Newman, director of Rothwell-based John Newman Hairdressing and Beauty, also supporting the appeal, presented Miss Lee with flowers during a small ceremony after the project was completed.

She said: “Together as a community we can make a big difference and help develop this facility for both KGH staff and the local people.

“This was the single most costly item of the whole refurbishment and it was a crucial starting point to secure the building’s future.”
