Young players from Kettering Rugby Club showed off their skills in front of thousands of fans at a key Heineken Cup clash last weekend.

The youngsters played prior to kickoff at Welford Road, as 10-time English champions Leicester Tigers took on French club Montpellier on Sunday.

Kettering’s under-10s were invited to take part in the super 16 stages of the Prima Tiger Cup before the Heineken Cup pool match.

The Prima Tiger Cup, sponsored by Prima Solutions of Loughborough, is enjoying its biggest-ever season with 70 teams entering for regional festivals before the Super 16 stages at Welford Road.

And the Waverley Road-based side lined up alongside teams from across the East Midlands – before staying to watch the Tigers score a bonus-point win over their French visitors in front of more than 21,000 spectators.

James Duffin, the Kettering Under-10s coach, joined the young players on the pitch and said: “We had a massive crowd of parents, grandparents and brothers and sisters of the players. It was a really good day and to play at Welford Road is great.”
