Kettering will host an event tonight (Thursday) aiming to raise awareness of disability hate crime.

International Day of People With Disability celebrates the achievements and contributions of people with a disability by raising public awareness, understanding and acceptance.

Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council, with partners from the Northamptonshire Learning Disability Partnership Board and Central England People First, are holding an event at the Kettering Clock Tower in the town centre between 6pm and 8pm.

Local service users of disability services will be performing a play called ‘It’s my life’.

Anjona Roy, chief executive of Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council, said: “We are really hoping people will come to the event and will be encouraged to report any disability hate crime that they know has taken place or they have witnessed.”
