An amateur theatre group set up in Kettering less than a year ago is hoping to build on a successful first year which has seen five productions in less than 12 months.

C&D Productions was set up by Chris Lynch and Dan Pothecary in early 2014.

Since then, the group has staged productions at Kettering Arts Centre and at the Camden Fringe Festival and, next month, a cast of young actors will be performing the timeless classic A Christmas Carol at the Corn Market Hall in Kettering.

Chris said: “Our theatre company has really taken off since our first production in May and we’ve got all sorts of amazing things happening now.

“We’ve got programmes going with several youngsters to give them invaluable experience and we are linking up with Tresham College to give their students work experience with us as we move into an ambitious 2015.

“For instance, in our last production, Frankenstein, the average age of the tech team was 17, our poster designer is 18 and our photographer was 15. No other theatre company locally offers youngsters these kinds of opportunities.”

The cast of A Christmas Carol includes more than 40 youngsters.

Chris added: “The cast comes from varying backgrounds and the reason many have been able to get involved with us is that we don’t charge membership or audition fees.

“We do ask people for a donation of £10 when they arrive, but some groups in the area will charge upwards of £130 per child if they want to act in a play.”

Chris said C&D are grateful to Total Parking Solutions, which has agreed to sponsor the group on an ongoing basis.

He added: “It will help us with our long-term plans and bring even more productions to Kettering next year, including both classical and contemporary plays.

“Our target for next year is another six productions, but it could be even more.”

The group carries out rehearsals at the Keystone Youth Centre, in Rockingham Road, Kettering.

C&D’s version of A Christmas Carol will be performed at the Corn Market Hall from Wednesday to Friday, December 17 to 19.

Tickets cost £7 in advance.
