Pupils have celebrated the official opening of their school playing field, thanks to a donation of £3,920 from Midlans Co-operative Society.

St Edward’s Primary Catholic School, Kettering, has recently undergone a lot of changes including an extension, electric safety gates and other repairs.

The school also wanted to provide a playing field for pupils on the site and, after approaching local businesses for support, Midlands Co-operative Society said it was happy to help.

Parent Leanne Provenzano explained: “Our sports days used to take place at the local secondary school which involved the children walking en masse across two main roads, while regular PE lessons had to take place in the school hall or playground.

“We had a potential site for the playing fields but it was not level and therefore unsafe.

“We wanted to level the area and seed the site which, thanks to Midlands Co-operative Society, Ground works and Ground Care Ltd and sponsorship from parents, friends and family for a skydive I did for the project, we have now achieved and the children now have a sports field.”

The field was officially opened by Northampton Saints player Ross McMillan.
