Former clubmates at Kettering Rugby Club lined up for opposite sides yesterday (Wednesday, April 16) as they took part in an Army v RAF encounter.

Andy Byrne is a Senior Aircraftman based at RAF Cranwell, while Tom Chennel is a Corporal in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

Andy, 20, an outside half, still plays for Kettering. Tom, 25, a scrum half, has moved on but used to play at Waverley Road alongside Andy’s brother Phil.

Both are due to go on to represent the British Forces Combined Services at Twickenham.

Yesterday’s match, at RAF Halton, saw the Army come out on top 35-26.
