An annual volleyball conference took place at the sport’s national home in Kettering last week.
Volleyball England’s annual referee and coaching conference took place at the National Volleyball Centre in Thurston Drive.
Both these conferences saw referees and coaches from across the sport come together to listen to volleyball referee and coaching experts and attend various sessions which were aimed to help them continuously improve their professional development.
Kettering Volleyball Club, which finished second in the East Midlands Regional League this season, was involved in a live coaching session led by two of the countries expert volleyball coaches, Rachel Lewis (current England women’s junior coach) and Carol Gordon (former England boy’s cadet coach).
The aim of this session was to show coaches how to create a great coaching session with your team when you have limited training time available - which is a challenge that many volleyball clubs are faced with.
Other sessions which took place during the day were a masterclass on developing your setter and how to use a statistics system to assist you with building your team.
Said Yazid, head coach of Kettering Volleyball Club, said: “Our players really enjoyed the experience of being coached by two of England’s top coaches.
“For me as a coach, I was able to take away so many ideas and ways of running a very focused session.
“I will certainly have a lot of ideas to try out.”
