A town’s first outdoor gym has opened.
The £14,000 facility, in Hall Meadow Park on Kettering Leisure Village, was officially opened on Thursday, October 4, and has seven pieces of equipment.
The high-tech facility has a QR code on each piece of equipment so users can scan the equipment to get video footage on how to use it as well as training guides.
The facility includes monkey bars, balance beams and a cross-trainer.
Cllr Steve Bellamy said: “I think everyone is keen to build on the Olympic legacy and what this kit gives us is a wonderful facility where people can capture that sport bug and get fit for free.”
Wicksteed Leisure donated the equipment and Kettering Council installed it.
Stuart Wetherell, director of Wicksteed Leisure said: ”This is a unique concept in outdoor fitness, health and well-being.
“Free to the user, it brings smartphone QR code technology to outdoor exercise.
“We have an excellent working relationship with Kettering Council which has always supported our innovative developments which ultimately benefit our local community”.
