Dozens of jobs could be lost from the area after a firm announced a consultation over a possible move.
Bunzl Catering Supplies, which has its national distribution centre in the Telford Way Industrial Estate, Kettering, has announced it will consult staff over a relocation.
The proposed move would take place in spring next year, a spokesman for Bunzl said. But he also insisted all of the approximately 60 Kettering staff would be offered the chance to relocate to the proposed new site 60 miles away.
The spokesman for the firm, which has 3,500 employees nationwide, added: “As part of a review of our facilities, we have commenced a consultation process with our employees at our distribution centre in Kettering.
“We are proposing to move activity from this site to a new site near Tamworth.
“Our priority is to work closely with employees during this consultation process.
“All employees will be offered the opportunity for employment at the new location if the proposed move goes ahead.”
Kettering MP Philip Hollobone said: “The movement of any business out of the borough is a big concern for local residents, but the borough has an extremely good record over the last 10 years of attracting new businesses.”
Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Northamptonshire Chamber, described the news as “disappointing”.
