Kettering’s Market Place will be transformed into the seaside in the biggest summer celebrations the town has seen yet.
The council claims people will see the town’s biggest summer party to date, with the flagship Kettering by the Sea returning for four weeks and preparations already under way for the town’s first urban beach volleyball tournament next month.
Ian Kirtley, partnerships manager at Kettering Council, said: “This year sees our biggest summer celebrations taking place with four weeks of fantastic entertainment for the whole family.
“We are expecting hundreds of people to enjoy the entertainment and activities throughout the summer.”
The Kettering BIG dance, featuring performances from local groups, will take place at the Market Place from July 7 to 14.
The dance event will act as a precursor to the eighth Kettering by the Sea, which will be held at the Market Place from Saturday, July 21, to Saturday, August 18.
Tonnes of sand will be taken to the town centre to turn the Market Place into a huge sandpit.
New attractions this year come from Leicester’s National Space Centre, which will be bringing its Stardome to the town on Tuesday, August 18.
The London Science Museum will showcase experiments, and a helter skelter will arrive in the Market Place in week three.
It is open every day except sundays from 10am to 4pm, with several attractions for people to visit each day.
The town’s first ever urban beach volleyball tournament takes place from 10am to 8.30pm on Saturday, July 28.
Mr Kirtley added: “As well as the ever popular return of the beach, this year will also see Kettering’s first Urban Beach volleyball tournament taking place with teams competing throughout the day in a number of different tournaments.”
