A Kettering bus driver has been recognised by his company for his ‘eco-driving’.
Simon Holmes, who has worked for Stagecoach since 2006, has received a Marks and Spencer voucher for his efforts.
He came out on top of measures which monitored drivers’ environmental driving.
To help identify the top-performing driver at their Kettering depot, Stagecoach used a hi-tech eco-driver monitoring system on the dashboard. It measures the driver’s performance when accelerating, braking, cornering and idling. The information can then be used to help ensure a smooth, safe and comfortable journey for passengers, as well as reduce fuel consumption, carbon emissions and wear and tear on the vehicles.
It is part of Green Week, which Stagecoach has set up to encourage staff and passengers to make more environmentally conscious decisions about the way they live.
Simon said: “I was very surprised to find I had the depot’s best score for my driving. The ‘eco-driver’ system is very good in enabling drivers to cut emissions and drive more safely.”
Brian Hadden, Operations Manager for North Northamptonshire, added: “Simon had an almost perfect score for his eco-driving over the past six months. He had a lot of competition as there were four other drivers who came very close.
“The whole depot is striving to do all it can to help the environment and maintaining good ‘eco-driver’ scores are important to them.”
