A living history event is returning to Northamptonshire this summer, it has been announced.
Kelmarsh Hall in Northamptonshire will again be transformed for a festival of historical entertainment with the return of History Live!, Europe’s largest living history event.
It takes place on Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20.
About 2,000 re-enactors, costumed interpreters and performers will come together as English Heritage brings the story of England’s past to life.
The event features battle re-enactments, explosive displays and shows. Younger visitors can enjoy the fun of the historic funfair, with have-a-go jousts and mini-battles in the Family Zone.
There will also be live music and performances in the Festival Court.
The centenary of the outbreak of the First World War will be commemorated with displays on the sacrifice of the men, women and horses on the frontline, and the transformation wrought by the conflict.
Lucy Hutchings, head of events at English Heritage, said: “We’re delighted to return to Kelmarsh for the biggest event in our calendar.
“Whether you love history, are intrigued by learning more about England’s story, or are simply looking for a great day out for the whole family, there’s plenty going on at History Live! this year.
“At English Heritage we aim to bring the past to life for everyone, and this, our showpiece weekend, is the perfect place to see history in action.”
