SHOPPERS are set to get a boost after their town centre won over the boss of a jewellery firm.
Michael McQuillan, who runs Grace and Co jewellers with his wife Lorna, is set to open a new branch in Corby.
He said: “When people have asked me why am I opening in Corby I say ‘Why not?’.
“Willow Place is vibrant and there are jobs being created in the town and houses being built.
“We took the general economy into account when we decided to open our latest store in Corby.”
The company has two branches in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire, one selling jewellery and the other an accessories store.
The company specialises in contemporary jewellery designers including Pandora, ChloBo, Thomas Sabo, Swarovski and Nomination.
Mr McQuillan said: “We will be offering the customers something that is not readily available in Corby.
“Our store will be offering the people of the town something different.
“We did our homework really well before deciding to open a branch in the town.”
The new store will be opening in Spencer Court in the town centre.
The main shop-fitting work will be done in the last week in March and Mr McQuillan hopes to welcome his first customers at the store before Easter.
He will be employing a staff of four full-time and up to three part-time assistants and has already recruited some staff from Corby.
Dan Pickard, Corby town centre director, said that talks were now going on with another two companies interested in opening in the town centre and that details would be announced soon.
And there’s more good news for shoppers with the opening next month of the new Boots superstore at Phoenix Parkway, in the town.
Work has been going on for weeks to transform the former Carpetright store.
The new Boots is expected to open in the middle of April and the company said it will continue to operate its shop in Queens Square, in the town centre.
