This weekend’s Footman James Sywell Classic – Pistons and Props, held at Sywell Aerodrome on Saturday and Sunday, September 27 and 28, is set to rock as Iron Maiden star Bruce Dickinson takes to the skies as part of the aerial and motorsport action.
Bruce will fly a replica Fokker Triplane as part of a reenactment of a WW1 dogfight by the Great War Display team, featuring eight warbirds, on Sunday.
A genuine Spitfire will herald the start of the display.
There will also be aerobatic demos by The Blades and the Russian warbirds The Yakovlevs both days, as well as a display by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight featuring a Hurricane, Spitfire and a Lancaster on Saturday.
Meanwhile on the ground, Sywell Aerodrome’s taxiway will be transformed into the ‘Sprint Strip’ where dragsters and motorcycles will burn up the tarmac while the mile-long main runway becomes the high octane ‘Racing Runway’, with racing cars from yesteryear reaching top speed including the 1983 Lancia LC2 with its Ferrari engine and iconic Martini livery.
There’s also more than 500 classic cars on display, the Wall of Death, a vintage funfair, and sideshows to keep families entertained as well as live music from all girl harmony group Elle and the Pocket Belles and the ‘firestarting’ rockabilly band The Houndogs.
With prizes for the best vintage dress and a Classic Trader and Vintage Fair catering for lovers of nostalgia and the vintage lifestyle, this is a great weekend of family fun
