No action is to be taken against a man who approached three girls near Asda in Rushden on Tuesday (November 4).
The incident happened in the afternoon when a man got out of a vehicle and approached the girls.
A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “We have been investigating an incident that happened near Asda, in Rushden, on Tuesday afternoon (4 November), where a man got out of a vehicle and approached three girls.
“The girls ran off and reported it to the police, who attended and spoke to the children and the man involved.
“The incident is not being treated as an attempted abduction. However, any such approach by an adult to children in these circumstances is obviously concerning and the girls did the right thing in running away and reporting it.
“Officers have stepped up patrols in Rushden to help reassure local people and are asking children, parents and teachers to be vigilant and report any similar circumstances to the police.”
Earlier this week, Wollaston School sent a letter to parents to warn them about the incident.
