The inquest of Karoly ‘Charlie’ Varga is to be held tomorrow, nearly four years after he was found dead at his home in Wellingborough.
July 30 will be the fourth anniversary of Mr Varga being found at his home in Cannon Street.
Police believe that Mr Varga had been viciously assaulted in his home with a hatchet-like weapon on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 27, shortly after he had let an unidentified visitor into his home.
While of Hungarian descent, the 76-year-old had lived in the United Kingdom since the 1950s and was very much a local Wellingborough man.
His inquest will be held in Kettering on Thursday, June 25.
A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: “The investigation has now reached a point where it is felt appropriate to hold the inquest.
“The investigation, however, remains open, and will be reviewed again post-inquest.”
A 47-year-old man from Wellingborough was arrested and charged with Mr Varga’s murder in December 2011, but the case against him was dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in June 2012.
