Rushden will mark Independents Day on July 4 by celebrating the independent shops the town centre has to offer.
The day is part of the larger Get To Know Rushden event, and organisers said the town’s independent shops are coming together to show people the quality on their doorstep.
The day has been organised by Rushden Town Partnership and its chairman said she is hopeful it will draw in the crowds.
Lorna Wiltshire said: “I’m hopeful it will be a great day. We have a lot of good independent shops in Rushden but not everybody knows what is right on their doorstep.
“The shops will be doing a number of things to entice people in.”
Plans are not fully confirmed for the day’s festivities but Flour Power bakery, T E Brown Butchers, both in High Street, and Manfield Crafts, in Griffith Street, have all confirmed they will be holding taster sessions.
A number of brightly painted shoes will also be hidden in shop windows, and a competition will be held for people to match up the pairs. Entry forms will be available from shops with a Rushden Town Partnership logo on the front. The closing date is July 11.
The prizes are yet to be confirmed but the winners will be announced at Party in the Park on Saturday, July 13.
Miss Wiltshire said plenty of surprises are still to be announced.
