Hundreds gathered in Rushden’s Hall Park for a celebration hosted by the town council yesterday.

There was entertainment from Rushden-based all female group A Song in My Heart, the Rock Voices Choir from Kettering and Lauren Jones, the winner of the Music Matters competition. There was also a fancy dress competition.

Adrian House, chairman of Rushden Town Council’s events working party, said: “It was a great turn-out – second only to Party in the Park.

“We are very grateful for the the support of the Scouts, who came along to entertain children with various games and archery.

“It turned out the way we hoped it would, to be a family afternoon which brought the community together. That is what we do it for.”

Linda Bullen, 66, who travelled from Bedford to attend the event with friends, said: “I think it’s great that Rushden Town Council puts on these events for the local people.

“If we have anything like this in Bedford we have to pay. I think it’s brilliant.”
