Homes evacuated

PEOPLE were evacuated from their homes on Saturday after a man threatened to start a fire in a disused factory.

Police were called to the building in Park Road, Rushden, just after 5am, where they were confronted by a 53-year-old man who threatened officers with scaffolding poles.

He started pouring petrol around the building and threatened to set it alight but police said the incident was brought to a safe conclusion and the man was arrested.

A small number of houses in Park Road and Crabb Street were evacuated as there were containers of flammable liquid in the factory.
