A DJ from Higham Ferrers has been nominated, by listeners of Northampton’s Inspiration FM, for an award in the radio equivalent of the Oscars.

Ashley Redman, 23, of Higham Ferrers, has been nominated for a Sony Radio Academy Award in the listeners’ choice category, which allows members of the public to vote for their favourite presenter.

Mr Redman presents the Monday afternoon slot between 2pm and 4pm and he was nominated alongside fellow presenter Paddy Grady, from Northampton. The 23-year-old said he was surprised with the nomination.

He said: “It was a surprise, because I found out Paddy had been nominated, and the following day one of my friends said they had voted for me.

“I didn’t have a clue I’d been nominated. I couldn’t be happier.”

Voting in the Sony Radio Academy Awards closes at 5pm on Friday, May 10, and the awards ceremony is in London on Monday, May 13.
