Christmas trees are being recycled for free by Kettering Council.

Many people have begun throwing theirs out following Twelfth Night, which signals the end of the Christmas period.

And yesterday council workers turned up at St Mary’s Primary School to collect theirs.

Council performance manager Deborah Snow said: “There were seven or eight kids who came out to help and our recycling education officer told them a bit about what would be happening to their tree.”

People can leave their tree next to their grey bin or blue or red recycling boxes on their normal recycling collection day.

They will be collected until the end of the week beginning January 16.
