A Kettering dentist wants to reassure residents who need to register for NHS dental treatment that appointments are available.

The mydentist practice in Gold Street spoke out following a report by Which? which revealed a third of dentists claiming to accept NHS patients were not doing so.

The practice is part of the largest provider of dental care in the UK and is a modern practice with a welcoming feel designed with patient comfort in mind.

Practice manager Gill Brown said: “We’re one of the few practices in the area currently accepting new NHS patients.”

According to the British Dental Health Foundation people who visit the dentist annually reduce their risk of tooth decay by 60 per cent.

Gill said: “Working in a dental practice, we see the impact on patients’ teeth if they don’t visit us regularly.

“We want people to know NHS dental care is available, so they register and receive regular treatment.

“Our practice is professional and friendly, our waiting room is decorated in warm greys and teal greens and is scented with jasmine to put people at ease when they visit us.”

Research from the foundation also revealed that 31 per cent of adults have tooth decay and 29 per cent suffer from regular dental pain.

Which? the consumer group has asked the Competition and Markets Authority to step and ensure practices comply with existing rules on NHS appointment availability.

Its undercover researchers called 500 dental surgeries advertising on the Government’s official website NHS Choices that they were accepting new NHS patients.

Researchers were turned down by 31 per cent of those practices while some had to wait for up to eight weeks to see an NHS dentist. The Which? report also urged more clarity over charging.

The mydentist practice provides NHS and private dentistry from three dentists offering the full range of dental treatments including orthodontics and Denture Excellence.

It is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm Mondays to Thursdays and 8.30am to 5.30pm on Fridays.

Patients should call 01536 510590 or visit www.mydentist.co.uk to make an appointment.
