A BOXING fan from Pytchley was among the lucky few who met former world heavyweight champions Mike Tyson and Tim Witherspoon in Northampton on Saturday.
The pair signed autographs and had their photos taken with fans as part of a one-off Collectormania event organised by the Showmasters group, which runs similar days across the country.
Among the fans was PR consultant Mark Ferguson, 42, from Pytchley, who queued for the chance to meet the legends and had his picture taken with Mike Tyson.
He said: “I have always been a big fan of boxing. Meeting Mike Tyson in the flesh while he was in Northampton seemed like too good an opportunity to pass up.
“I got to have a bit of a chat and told him that he was a great champion and that I was very glad that he was able to visit Northampton. He responded that it was his pleasure and said that he ‘loved me, brother’, which was great.”
Craig and Irene Haldane, from Corby, also queued up to meet the heavyweight pair. Former amateur boxer Craig said: “We didn’t know anything about this until we saw it in the newspaper. I told Irene I couldn’t miss it. It’s like a dream. It’s fantastic to get the chance to meet both of them.”
