New costumes have been bought for music and dance classes held by the Wellingborough District Hindu Association, thanks to a grant from Wellingborough Northamptonshire county councillor Jay Walia.
The funds have been used to pay for Bhangra costumes for classes, which will be on view at an Indian Republic Day show to be held on Saturday, January 26, at the Hindu Community Centre, in Highfield Road, Wellingborough. The event is free.
Cllr Walia said: “I am so pleased to have been able to be part of improving the dance and music class, and to be able to promote the community and diversity, which we have done since 1967.”
The Bhangra costumes will be used for shows and events throughout the year, and will allow plenty of opportunities to take part in performing arts projects.
Speaking on behalf of the Hindu Association funding committee, Dipak Patel thanked Cllr Walia. He said: “Awarding the grant and bringing people together is truly what localism is all about and I’m glad to have been a part of it.”
