A grandmother has been honoured for her fundraising efforts by being named Granny of the Month by an online community.

Wendy Valentine, of Manningham Road, Stanwick, dedicates hundreds of hours towards charity fundraising each year and she said she is delighted to win the award.

The grandmother-of-seven said: “I am happy and I enjoy helping people as I think we should all be trying to help one another.”

Mrs Valentine was given the award by Grannynet, a community-based website for grandmothers, after her daughter encouraged her to put herself forward.

Mrs Valentine said: “My daughter said it was a good idea and I always think about the charities and helping them raise their profile, so I applied. I suppose I put myself forward really.”

The grandmother, who is in her 60s, has raised money for a number of charities over the years, including Macmillan Cancer Support and the British Heart Foundation shop in Rushden, where she volunteered at until recently.

The Stanwick woman has a vast collection of vintage and historical photographic images and memorabilia, which she calls her “museum in boxes.”

The retired grandmother exhibits her photographs throughout the county several times each year, as she bids to raise money for charities across the county and nationally.

Mrs Valentine said that she enjoys her fundraising and will continue to help charities as long as she can.
