A gold medal winning gymnast is helping a sports centre in Corby celebrate its 40th birthday.

Lodge Park Sports Centre in Shetland Way is celebrating its birthday on Monday, October 20, and Commonwealth gold medallist Daniel Keatings will officially open the centre’s new gym facility at 6.30pm.

The birthday event will also give people a taste of what the centre has to offer with demonstrations from sports clubs in the practice hall from 6pm to 7pm. These include kickboxing, trampolining, gymnastics and judo. Information from Castle Badminton Club, SHAPE Dance and Corby Council’s Culture and Leisure team will also be available.

The new gym has state-of-the-art treadmills, bikes, rowers, elliptical trainers and climb mills with integrated TVs, as well as new resistance machines and an XCube which includes monkey bars and platforms alongside cable, plate-loaded free weights. Guests throughout the birthday event will be able to have a tour of the new and improved facility and see what it has to offer firsthand.

Anyone who attends will automatically be entered into a prize draw to be in with the chance of winning a family ticket to the British Touring Car Championships at Rockingham Motor Speedway in 2015.

Council leader, Cllr Tom Beattie, said: “It’s hard to believe that Lodge Park Sports Centre has already reached its 40th year, it is a fantastic facility that continues to serve the community well. The investment in the new gym equipment is a very fitting birthday present and we hope that all of our loyal customers, new starters and those who may not have been to the facility before will pop by to help us celebrate the centre’s past 40 years and have a look at what it has to offer today.”
