A burglary victim was nearly ran over by the culprits who had targeted his home in Northampton when they planted the getaway vehicle into reverse during a terrifying raid.
On Saturday night (December 10) between 7pm and 8pm, the victim returned to his home in Friars Avenue, Far Cotton, to find three men in the property.
A police spokeswoman said he confronted one of the men who threatened him with a piece of glass and, after a short scuffle, the suspect left the house through the front door. The victim was uninjured.
Another man escaped through a first-floor window and all three men then got into a black hatchback car. The driver reversed towards the victim while he was trying to stop them, and then drove off along Friars Avenue towards London Road.
All three men were white. One was described as 5ft 11 inches tall, with a heavy build and pale complexion. He was wearing black trousers and a black padded jacket with the hood up. He spoke with what is believed to be a faint Irish accent.
Another is described as about 5ft 7 inches, with a slim build, wearing black clothes with his face half covered. The third man was wearing dark clothing.
The raiders made off with jewellery and cash.
Witnesses, or anyone with information, are asked to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
