Three county buildings will be the setting for some spooky ghost tours this Halloween (Wednesday, October 31).
Northamptonshire County Council’s Central Library, the Sessions House and Northampton Museum will host the ghost tours which will feature scary stories and true tales from Northamptonshire such as the Northampton Witch Trials, the Blazing Car Murder and the life of John Clare.
Tour-goers will also hear about real psychic investigations which have taken place.
The events have been organised by the county council’s library service in partnership with the Royal and Derngate, Northants Paranormal Research Society with the support of volunteers from the youth theatre and secondary schools.
Money raised will be used to support the library service.
If the tours are a success, it is proposed to organise similar events around the county, working with other arts venues and museums in the future.
County council cabinet member for customer and community services Cllr Heather Smith said: “These entertaining and spooky ghost tours will be a chance to find out about the county’s haunted history at three of the town’s most significant buildings.
“This is the first time the library service has worked together with so many partners to organise events like these which will help raise money to support the library service.
“I’m sure they will be a very popular way to spend the scariest day of the year, so make sure you don’t leave it too late to book your place.”
The ghost tours will take place from 1pm to 9pm on Wednesday, October 31.
Each tour lasts approximately 70 minutes and places are limited to 20 people per tour.
Tickets cost £7 for adults and £5 for children under 16 (who must be accompanied by an adult).
