Excitement is building in Kettering as the council prepares for the big Christmas lights switch-on.
It is hoped Kettering’s Market Place will be full with people of all ages for the festive fun on Thursday, November 29.
The free event starts at 5pm, with local acts including Infuzion, Rock Voices and Charlie Botting, winner of talent contest K-Factor, entertaining the crowds in the build-up to the big switch-on which will take place at 6.30pm.
Turning on the lights this year will be the stars of Peter Pan at The Lighthouse theatre, including Darren Day, star of the West End and former I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here contestant.
Thursday also marks the beginning of late night shopping in Kettering town centre this year, with shops opening until 9pm every Thursday until Christmas.
Valerie Hitchman, head of community services at Kettering Council, said: “We are delighted to be lighting up the town in style and celebrating the start of another exciting Christmas in Kettering.
“Don’t forget to support your local town centre and start your Christmas shopping with Kettering’s first late night shopping evening this year.”
A magical Winter Wonderland will also be revealed in the Market Place next to Prezzo on November 29 where people will be given the chance to stroll through the Christmas themed walkway and meet Santa Claus.
Cllr Christopher Lamb, portfolio holder for community and culture, said: “I am delighted with this year’s Christmas programme, which offers something to everyone.
“Whether you want to see some of the stars of Peter Pan, get in some early Christmas shopping or visit our Winter Wonderland, Christmas at Kettering has it all.”
