More than half of students at Wellingborough School gained at least one A* in their GCSE results, which were published yesterday.

Nearly one fifth of the year gained seven or more passes at A* and four in five results were graded B or above – prompting staff at the London Road school to express their delight at the results.

This year saw the addition of some additional languages achieving a high level of success with A* grades in German, Italian and Russian.

There was also some stand-out success for some of the school’s younger pupils. Nikko ten Have, 10, who attends the prep school, gained an A* in French, while a 12-year-old girl gained an A in Russian. A 13-year-old boy won full marks in his German GCSE.

Among the top-performing subjecst were drama were all graded A and above, and the pass rates in maths and English language were 98 per cent and 99 per cent respectively.
