Pupils at Southfield School for Girls had plenty of reasons to celebrate on GCSE results day.
Southfield is celebrating a 19 per cent increase in the number of students achieving the EBACC, the government flagship qualification which is highly valued by universities.
A school spokesman said: “When grade boundaries are significantly rising every year for the top grades we are delighted that 28 students achieved eight A*/A including Elysia Ponzetta, Hajer Al Hamali, Leanne Bryant and Jenna Manners.
“Overall our students have achieved their predicted grades and the majority of students wishing to go on to A-Levels or employment with training have gained the required grades.
“We are delighted that the students who have achieved national recognition in their sport have achieved fantastic grades across all subjects; this has been supported by a flexible timetable, which has enabled them to continue their sport at the highest level whilst achieving their grade As and A*s in the exams.
