Part of Rothwell town centre was closed earlier today (Wednesday, August 21) after fire crews were called to deal with a propane cylinder which was venting gas.

Firefighters were called to Market Hill, off Bridge Street, in the town at about 5.40pm.

Nearby roads were closed by the police for safety reasons.

The closures led to heavy traffic delays through Rothwell – with cars backed up as far as the A14 slip road leading into the town.
