A village store is holding a free food-tasting event to help promote local producers.

It is being held at the Village Store and cafe, Corby Road, Cottingham, on Saturday (November 16), between 10am and 1pm.

Breads, pies, cheese and other produce will be available to try and visitors can meet the people behind the products.

The local artisans who make Hambleton bread, Brockleby’s pies and Grasmere Farm pork products will be on hand to talk about how they make their goods.

Twice a week dozens of villagers pick up their order of bread, muffins, savoury tarts and cakes from Hambleton Bakery, named Britain’s best bakery by ITV in 2012.

Head baker Julian Carter won the 2013 Baker of the Year title too.

The shop’s cheese supplier, Stamford’s Cheese Cellar, will also have unusual and classic varieties on offer for visitors to taste.

The shop and cafe, which re-opened in 2011, is run by volunteers. It also offers a wide range of food and drink, including fruit and vegetables from Leicester Market.
