Fraudster caught

A BENEFIT cheat who falsely claimed nearly £8,000 she wasn’t entitled to has been successfully prosecuted.

Irene Sinclair, of Cam Close, Corby, failed to declare that her partner was living with her at her current and previous addresses and received an overpayment of £7,838 in housing and council tax benefits.

Sinclair appeared at Corby Magistrates Court on Wednesday where she was sentenced to 250 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £220 costs.

Corby Council leader Tom Beattie said: “Our fraud investigation team is aware of the importance of catching those who abuse the benefits system.”
