Force in mourning after Rushden-based special constable dies in bike crash

Tributes have been paid to a popular special constable based in Rushden who has died in a motorbike accident.

Andy Frost, Deputy Chief Constable for Northamptonshire Police, said: “It is with great sadness that we today announce the death of a serving special constable and staff member who has tragically died while on holiday in Spain.

“SPC Amanda Wood was riding her motorcycle back yesterday afternoon from an event in Faro, Portugal, when she was involved in an accident close to the town of Caspe in North Eastern Spain.

“Amanda’s family have been informed and a post-mortem examination was due to take place in the city of Zaragoza later today.

“This is tragic news and on behalf of the force I send my deepest condolences to Amanda’s family and friends.

“Amanda was a well-regarded and popular member of the Special Constabulary as well being the East Northants sector co-ordinator, based out of Rushden.

“She will be missed by all who knew her and the flag is flying at half-mast at Wootton Hall today as a mark of respect.”

Specials Chief Officer Mike Maywood said: “Sad to report that one our dedicated officers Amanda Wood passed away in a motor accident yesterday. RIP Amanda.”
