THE instantly recognisable sight of Herbie will be gracing the streets of Monte Carlo thanks to a team of Volkswagen experts.
Auto Spa Ltd carried out the work on the replica of the famous Beetle, which is now going on a fundraising trek to Monte Carlo.
The firm sells and restores vintage VW vehicles.
It is based in Souldrop but is staffed by Northamptonshire residents.
Owner Biagio Chrzanowski, of Wymington, said: “The customer sourced the car from the states and it was restored in the USA. It had an original VW engine in it but he wanted to fit a Porsche engine into it, which is not easy.
“We said we would do it, and against the clock we fitted an engine to the chassis and gearbox. “Technically it was quite tricky but we have lots of expertise who we can call upon for advice.”
Also working on the car were Peter Line of Rushden and Michael Coe of Irchester.
The car’s owner Al Clinton is raising money for Clare House children’s hospice in Liverpool. For details visit http://herbiesgoingback tomontecarlo.com.
