Firefighters from Corby and animal rescue volunteers from Wellingborough helped a horse from a ditch near Harringworth.
The animal was rescued safely and its rider was unhurt.
The fire service received the call at about 11am today (Sunday, February 3) and the horse was freed by about 1.30pm.
A spokesman for the fire service said: “A vet was in attendance and the horse was sedated. It was a large horse measuring 17.3 hands and the sides of the ditch were steep. Its rider was able to get out uninjured and called the vet straight away.”
Firefighters used winching gear to lift the animal from the ditch.
