Five fire crews were called to a fire which broke out in a Corby factory this morning (Saturday, November 3).

An industrial filtration unit at the Benteler Automotive plant on Baird Road in the town was severly damaged in the blaze, which broke out at around 10am.

Two crews from Corby and one each from Kettering, Oundle and Burton Latimer – along with specialist units from Daventry and Northampton – took nearly three hours to tackle the fire.

Firefighters, who were forced to wear breathing equipment, believe the most likely cause of the fire was a spark from a welding process which ignited combustible material in the extraction system.
