A mechanical fault in a piece of machinery started a fire at the Tayto crisp manufacturing facility in Princewood Road, Corby, on Monday evening.

Fire crews from Corby and Desborough and specialist equipment from Daventry were called to the scene at about 8.40pm.

Firefighters used a hose reel to put out a small blaze, which a spokesman for Northamptonshire Fire Service said had destroyed ‘a quantity’ of crisps.

Damage was also caused to the manufacturing equipment.
