A man has been given a suspended prison sentence for smearing dog faeces on the face of a woman who did not give him a cigarette.

Appearing at Northampton Crown Court last week, Mark Wood, of Irthlingborough Road, Finedon, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm to the woman.

Wood had initially threatened to “slit someone’s throat” in the incident, which took place on May 20 this year. He took the woman’s phone so that she was unable to call the police.

Prosecuting, Caroline Bray said he then chased his victim down the street before smearing dog mess on her face and clothes.

Mrs Bray added: “She tried to get help from people nearby but couldn’t and he continued to verbally abuse her.”

Derek Johashen, mitigating, said Wood had been suffering from mental health issues at the time of the incident, and felt “ashamed and disgusted” at what he had done.

Handing down a suspended prison sentence of six months, Recorder Balraj Bhatia said Wood had “deliberately humiliated the woman in the nastiest possible way”.
