Christmas celebrations and charitable initiatives are set to take place at the Swansgate Shopping Centre in Wellingborough throughout December.
On Saturday, December 1, Santa will be at the Shopping Centre between 11am and 4pm.
Shoppers will receive an exclusive Swansgate Advent Calendar, full of offers and prizes, as well as chocolate. Father Christmas will return to the centre on December 8th, 15th and 22nd.
Children can meet Santa each week between 11am and 4pm, and receive a free gift.
Lindsay Tickner, centre manager at Swansgate, said: “We’re looking forward to getting festive with our shoppers throughout December. “There’s a lot happening, with Santa’s visits and of course all the shops being in full Christmas mode. We also have longer opening hours this December so shoppers have even more time to get their shopping done.”
The annual ‘Giving Tree’ has also been in place at Swansgate Centre for the last two weeks and already many local shoppers have got into the spirit of giving by buying an extra gift for a less fortunate child within the community.
The ‘Giving Tree’ is a joint initiative between the shopping centre and Home-Start Wellingborough & District, a family support charity which offers friendship, practical help and emotional support to families with at least one child under the age of five, facing the challenges of family life.
Home-Start Wellingborough & District chooses gifts relative to each child’s individual age, interests and developmental stage.
The name of each suggested gift is then put onto a tag and placed on the ‘Giving Tree.’
Shoppers can visit the ‘Giving Tree,’ select a tag, purchase the gift requested, attach the supplied label and post it in the drop box. After December 8, Home-Start will collect the gifts and distribute them to each child in time for Christmas.
Janet Gwilliam Sanders, scheme manager at Home-Start Wellingborough & District said: “For many children we work with, the extra gift bought by shoppers will be the only gift they receive this Christmas, so the ‘Giving Tree’ really does make a huge difference for them. We would like to thank Swansgate shoppers for their ongoing generosity and support.”
