Mascot Charlie the Lion helped a newly refurbished and renamed nursery sign up families at an open day.

At least half of the dozen families who visited Little Champs Nursery in St John’s Street, Wellingborough, on Saturday signed up for its toddler and pre-school places.

Manager Rebecca Sivers said: “It’s gone really well. We’ve been really busy throughout the day. There has been lots of interest.

“We’ve changed our name to Little Champs Nursery so it has been good for people to come round the nursery.”

Children made crowns, place mats and collages and did hand printing.

They also played with the sand, water and computers and did puzzles.

The nursery, formerly known as the Christian Centre Nursery, can take a total of 66 children between 8am and 6pm. It was completely refurbished in September with new flooring, toilets, ceiling, entrance, utility room and plastering.

The nursery changed its name this month because the Reach Out Community Church, with which it is associated, will change its name to Everyday Champions Church in April.
