The Telegraph can exclusively reveal that Darren Day will be starring in The Lighthouse theatre’s Christmas pantomime this year.
The star of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Hollyoaks and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be playing Captain Hook in the Christmas pantomime at the Kettering theatre.
He’ll be joined on stage by his wife, actress Stephanie Dooley, who will be playing a pirate.
The former You Bet presenter said he’s looking forward to linking up with Paul Hammond of Hammond Pantomimes and reprising the role he played at Worthing Pavilion Theatre last year.
It was such a success that it broke the venue’s box office records.
He said: “I am very much looking forward to the show.
“It’s a great panto and it’s going to be a big adventure and really good fun.
Playing a baddie is the most fun. We make Captain Hook quite modern – he’s a little bit more like Pirates of the Caribbean.
“I think I have found my niche with him because he’s a comedy baddie.
“I did a lot of voices on Spitting Image so it’s like going back to my roots.”
Darren was approached by Mr Hammond to play the role of a pantomime villain after Darren’s appearance in I’m a Celebrity.
This will be the third time the duo have worked together.
Mr Hammond said: “I am delighted to have Darren in the show.
“There are a lot of bigger theatres out there which Darren has graced in the past, and they still look for his services, so it’s really good to get him here in Kettering.”
