A former serviceman will skydive 13,500ft to raise money for seriously injured soldiers returning from Afghanistan.

Simon Peck, 48, from Wellingborough, served with the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards during the 1980s in Northern Ireland, the Falklands, Cyprus, Belize, Canada and Hong Kong. He is also now a civilian welfare officer for the Coldstream Guards Association.

He was previously involved in fundraising campaigns for his old regiment and he now hopes to raise money for soldiers returning from Afghanistan by taking part in a skydive on September 29. He said: “My next fundraising event is to raise funds to support seriously injured soldiers after they return from Afghanistan. As an association we are hands-on in helping many serving soldiers deal with their horrific injuries after they return home from active service.

“We also assist many veterans from previous campaigns. It’s a sad fact that for every tragic death on active service, many also return home with life-changing injuries – their war is far from over.”
