Events dedicated to carers who provide unpaid support to people who are ill, frail or disabled, is taking place in the county next week.
To mark Carers Week, which runs from 10 to 16 June, Age UK Northamptonshire and Northamptonshire Carers are offering people the chance to look around a day centre which offers support to carers in the county, giving them a much-needed break from their caring role.
Prepared to Care?, the 2013 Carers Week campaign, will focus on how the UK’s current carer population is coping, how effectively the Government is supporting the growing numbers of carers, and whether the wider population is prepared for future caring responsibilities.
Throughout the week staff from the two organisations will be at the following venues:
Friday, June 7: Waitrose Rushden, Carers Week stand between 8am and 4pm
Tuesday, June 11: Four Seasons Health Care, School Lane, Kettering, between 10.30am and midday
Wednesday, June 12: Sainsbury’s Burton Latimer between 9.30am amd 5pm
They will also be at the main entrance at Kettering hospital from 9am to 4pm between Monday, June 10 and Thursday, June 13.
There will also be a fundraising coffee morning for Northamptonshire Carers on Friday, June 14 between 10am and midday at the Wesleyan Church Hall in Queen Street, Rushden. Anyone interested in booking a table for the table-top sale, for £5, is asked to contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call on 01933 677837.
Age UK Northamptonshire’s care manager Jillian Powell said: “We would like to invite Carers to meet Age UK Northamptonshire and Northamptonshire Carers staff during Carers Week to chat with us and have the opportunity to have a look around the facilities and discuss your options.
“If you are caring for a loved one, you need to be sure that all their needs and requirements are being catered for when you are not around.”
