Bomb disposal experts were called to the Finedon Road Industrial Estate in Wellingborough today after a member of the public discovered a suspected expolosive device which turned out to be an empty artillery shell.

Northamptonshire Police say they were alerted by a member of the public who found the ‘historic device’ in Meadow Close, on the estate, at about 12.50pm.

Several buildings in the area were evacuated while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were called to establish if the device posed any risk.
