Have your say

Pupils at a Wellingborough school will join a rocket car racing team tomorrow and have the chance to build and race their own models to up to 200mph.

The 80 children from Oakwood Academy’s Year 5 group will welcome the Bloodhound rocket car team to Santa Pod Raceway at 11.30am tomorrow (May 12). As part of the Bloodhound Project, the team will then help the 10-11-year-olds design, build and race model rocket cars at speeds of up to 200mph on the raceway dragstrip.

The car itself, developed especially as an initiative to give school children first hand experience of the possibilities behind science, technology, engineering and mathematics is currently focussing on its attempt to set a new World Land Speed Record of more than 1,000mph on land.

More than 100,000 pupils from 5,700 UK schools across the UK take part in the project every year, and more worldwide.
