Tresham College has confirmed plans to redevelop its Wellingborough campus and increase the number of students.
The institute is expected to submit a bid for the new facility to the Skills Funding Association.
Tresham’s principal Stuart Wesselby said: “After a lengthy and thorough appraisal process the governing body decided to remain on the site in Church Street.
“We are now pursuing a development plan which is predicated on receiving support from the Skills Funding Agency, and other external bodies, which will enable us to replace the tired campus at Wellingborough with a state-of-the-art facility that will meet the needs of local industry and satisfy future inward investment to the area.
“We are hoping to work closely with Wellingborough Council and the county council to ensure the campus re-development will act as a catalyst for regeneration of the town and East Northamptonshire.”
Wellingborough Council’s development committee chairman Cllr Tim Allebone said: “It’s great news that Tresham has committed to Wellingborough.
“This is another indicator that investors have confidence in our borough and it is a big step forward in plans to create a vibrant and thriving town centre.”
