Children, staff and parents joined the celebrations when a school converted from a community primary school to an academy.
Kingswood Primary Academy in Corby opened its doors last month and parents joined their children for a special assembly and Big Family Breakfast. The academy, sponsored by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust (GDFT), is based in the same building as the former Kingswood Primary School and a tree has been planted in the grounds to commemorate the change.
Barry Day, chief executive of the GDFT, said: “We are delighted to welcome Kingswood into our group of academies.
“We will continue the excellent work already in place at the school in order to further raise achievement for children in the Kingswood area.”
Principal Wendy Gordon said: “We are delighted to have joined the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust.
“The conversion from a community primary school to an academy marks a new beginning for us. We came out of special measures nearly a year ago, in June 2012, and I believe that with the support of the trust, we can continue to make rapid progress and improve our Key Stage 2 test results.”
